Fundamentals of Physical Theatre

An introduction to mime and mask work! We’ll explore the expressive possibilities of the body and examine how to use the body as a tool, based on the pedagogy developed by Jacques Lecoq. On this course, you’ll be introduced to various techniques of mask work and the basics of mime.

We’ll explore different emotions and how to embody them using the bodymask technique. We’ll create physical ‘sculptures’ of emotions and explore ways to utilise this form of expression in scenes. We’ll also look at neutral, larval and expressive masks. We practise basic mime techniques and explore how mime serves as a tool for storytelling. Expression is liberated through games and play, creating a safe foundation for creative experimentation. During the course, we analyse our own work and that of others, and in addition to developing our own expression, we cultivate the ability to observe and guide others.

The course is suitable for those with previous theatre experience and complete beginners who wish to explore physical theatre and develop their own form of expression.

Physical Theatre – Advanced

On this advanced course, you will deepen your skills in physical theatre and explore group-based work based on Jacques Lecoq’s pedagogy. We will make use of the narrative possibilities offered by comics, which will enable you to explore how space is created through physical means. You will also practise mime-based storytelling as part of a group. You will deepen your skills in mask work and become familiar with half-masks, which introduce a dialogue between speech and physical expression. During the course, you will analyse your own work and that of others, whilst further developing your ability to observe and direct others. The course is suitable for those who have previously completed a course in the basics of physical theatre, or an equivalent course, and wish to deepen their expertise in physical theatre.

The Magic of Mime

How do you tell a story without saying a single word? How do you create a world from scratch? Come and discover the world of mime! In this course, you’ll be introduced to the basic techniques of mime and learn how to use mime as a storytelling tool. You’ll explore the expressive possibilities of the body and examine how to use it as a tool.

We’ll create various mime scenes in which we’ll practise wordless storytelling, bringing vivid settings and intriguing encounters to life. During the course, we’ll perform in front of others, analyse our own and others’ work, and develop our ability to observe and direct others. We’ll maintain a fun and playful atmosphere throughout the course, where it’s safe to let go and try new things! The course is suitable for both those with previous theatre experience and complete beginners who want to explore the world of mime and develop their own form of expression.

“The teacher created a safe atmosphere in which to let go and experiment.” – participant feedback

The World of Masks

Try acting with masks! Masks are a powerful tool that reveal the uniqueness of our bodies. With their help, you’ll learn to recognise your own mannerisms and become aware of how your body expresses things – even when you’re not consciously trying to express anything. Behind the mask, you’ll practise building characters from a purely physical starting point. On the course, you’ll explore the expressive possibilities of the body and examine the use of the body as a tool, based on the pedagogy developed by Jacques Lecoq. You’ll experiment with various mask-work techniques and be introduced to the neutral mask, the larval mask and the expressive mask. During the course, you will perform in front of the group under the teacher’s guidance and analyse your own and others’ work. The course is suitable for those with previous theatre experience as well as complete beginners who wish to explore the world of masks and develop their own form of expression.

Basics of Clowning

The course introduces participants to the basic principles of theatrical clowning through games and improvisation. We’ll explore our own inner clown and the mindset characteristic of it. We’ll practise letting go, performing and creating improvised scenes, and analyse what we’ve done together.

The course is suitable for anyone interested in performing or acting who wishes to develop their stage presence, ability to live in the moment, responsiveness and improvisational skills. The course also provides tools for working with comedy and rhythm. No prior experience of clowning or theatre is required. The course is aimed at adults.

It is said that clowning combines everything that is most important in acting. It is both a useful form of training for actors and an independent art form in its own right, built on presence, interaction and play. In theatrical clowning, all the superfluous elements are stripped away so that the clown can be genuinely and honestly present for the audience. The clown’s sensitivity makes us laugh and touches our hearts: through humour and sincerity, even difficult issues can be addressed in a very special way. Through clowning, we explore vulnerability and the liberation of the inner child. A red nose is the world’s smallest mask. Clowning is, in fact, closely related to mask theatre and follows many of its principles. It also shares common ground with other forms of physical theatre, such as mime and puppetry.

Advanced Clowning

In this advanced clowning course, we delve even deeper into the world of the clown and awaken the clowns from their slumber. Through relaxed games and play, we foster a safe working environment where mistakes are seen as valuable gifts and sources of inspiration. On the course, we’ll strengthen our clowning skills and develop an understanding of the principles of comedy and a sense of rhythm. We practise improvisation and create short performance pieces, either individually or in groups. We delve deeper into how a clown act is constructed and what specific characteristics a clown must take into account when improvising.

Theatre clowning is both a form of acting training and an independent art form based on presence, interaction and play. In this advanced course, we take the clown’s authentic and honest presence in front of an audience a step further. Through clowning, we explore vulnerability and the liberation of the inner child. The red nose is the smallest possible mask, and the art form does indeed follow many of the principles of mask theatre. There are also commonalities with other forms of physical theatre, such as mime and puppetry.

Release Your Inner Child

Do you need a break from the daily grind? Do you lead various games or other group activities at work or in your hobbies, and are you looking for new ideas? Come along and unleash your inner child! Through play, you’ll reduce stress, boost your creativity and free your mind. At the same time, you’ll add exercises to your toolkit for use at work and in your hobbies.

We’ll play a wide variety of games together as a group, ranging from running games to those that require concentration and build team spirit. The games you’ll learn on this course are ideal for team-building, as a refreshing break between other activities, or even as a warm-up for theatre rehearsals. At the heart of it all is having fun together and letting your inner child run free. Come and have a go!

The course is suitable for anyone interested in letting their hair down and having a bit of fun. Some of the games involve more movement and, at times, running, so it’s a good idea to wear clothes that allow you to move around freely.
